And the November 7th Headless Halloween Regatta (great name) does not have a traditional entry fee - Rowers should race in costume and bring a brunch item to share.

Hi Folks,
Saturday, October 31, 2015
9:00AM, Riverside Boat Club's Peanut Butter Cup Regatta.
Starts at Riverside, rounds a stake somewhere between Weeks and Anderson bridges, and back to Riverside. Don't let the costumes fool you, there are big bags of peanut butter cups on the line, and the competition is fierce. Mixed doubles only.

Time? Allegedly, some version of Riverside's Armada Cup is also running on a longer course for singles and possibly other boats. No info on that. Keep your eyes open.

November 7, 2015
9:00AM, Community Rowing's Halloween Regatta.
Head of the Charles finish line to the 3rd dock at CRI. All are welcome and there is an entry fee.

November 14, 2015.
9:00AM Women's Foot of the Charles.
V8's racing from Mass Ave to the HOCR Finish line (arguably the best spectator event of the year). 9:30 and 9:40AM, Frosh 8's and V 4's race from Riverside to the HOCR Finish

November 15, 2015
8:00AM Men's Foot of the Charles.
MIT's Pierce Boathouse (rowing boathouse, above Mass Ave) to Harvard's Newell Boathouse (upstream of Anderson).

Two quick public service announcements

1. Daylight savings disappears this week, along with afternoon sun. Roll your clock back and enjoy the extra sleep.
2. Tuesday is a municipal election day. Boathouse are on public land. Do your club a favor and get out and vote, especially if it is a sleep election in your area. That will land you on a super voter list, and give you club lots of clout should they ever need help from their local Rep. or Senator.

Folks, it is really the silly season out there, time for everyone to be on their toes.  Take extra time to look around before launching.  Make sure you are out of other boat's way when waiting to land.  And take a good look when rowing, not only at your own course, but alert others of potential hazards.  Visitors to the river mean that there are lots of folks who think the Head of the Charles course is the way the river should be rowed for a practice piece - and we might have a few home grown folks with the same idea.  If you see someone cutting the corner too tight, say so.  If you see someone not hugging the shore tightly on the big turn, call out to them.  It takes a village to run a river so everyone, help out.

Upcoming Events:

 October 17and 18
Head of the Charles Regatta, Head of the Charles Course (BU Boathouse to the marker, about 10 strokes past the wooden boardwalk at Herter Park).  Thousands of rowers, hundreds of thousands of spectators, fun had by all.

Saturday, October 31
Riverside Boat Club's Peanut Butter Cup Regatta.  Time and Course TBA (the course is weather dependent.  They'll run it from the boathouse to Mass Ave if the weather is good, from the boathouse to Newell Boathouse, upstream of Anderson Bridge, if not).  Don't let the costumes fool you, there are Reeses Peanute Butter Cups for prizes and the racing is fierce.  Beware of lightweights.

How could I forget?

The tripple octuple....tri octuple... octuple(3).... ok, that sculling boat that seats 24 plus cox will also be on the Charles Saturday, post HOK, pretty much all day.

and confirmed, CRI is extending the scary season.  The Halloween Regatta is on November 7.  Sorry to doubt them since they are really good about posting their events.

OK folks, rowing season on the Charles is about to hit its peak, and sailors are still out there in numbers, and racing too.  Lots of visitors will be coming to the river to run through the Head of the Charles course.  If they launch from YOUR boathouse, please make every effort to tell them what they need to know about safety on the river (like they need to stay to the right, and they don't get to cross the center line heading into Weeks, or Anderson, or Eliot).  But expect others to show up and wet-launch or use the docks at Herter Park to take a trip down the course - so keep your eyes open.

Formal and informal EVENTS!

 Saturday, October 10, 2015
7:00AM Heads of the Kevin III, on the Head of the Charles course (BU Boathouse to the finish marker, about 10 strokes past the boardwalk at Herter Park).  This is the final of the best 2 out of 3 series run by Riverside Boat Club as an in house (with approved guests) informal regatta.  They endeavor to run as many people down the course to make the river more bearable at other times, while not letting it get so big as to be a big problem.  Still, you want to avoid it.

10AM to 2PMish.  Riverside Men's sweep scrimmages Williams College,
on the Head of the Charles Course and possibly in shorter pieces.  Only about 4 boats.
Sunday, October 11, 2015
Noon.  Head of the Quinnobequin Youth Singles Regatta.  Eliot Bridge to North Beacon St. Bridge.  Expect 120+ kids all in singles, between 11 and 18 years of age.  Canoe/Kayakers in Brighton are asked to launch heading downstream until the course clears.  Powerboaters are asked to NOT travel the course during the race (approximately Noon to 1:00PM).  Also expect these kids to be launching from various boathouses from around 11:00AM, and heading back after about 1:00PM and as late as 2:00PM.  Impressive event, come spectate!
October 17/18
All Day.  Head of the Charles Regatta.  Thousands of rowers, hundreds of thousands of spectators.  Fun had by all.
October 31, 2015
7AM?  Peanut Butter Cup.  Have heard a rumor that Riverside will run their costumed Peanut Butter Cup, but no details yet.  Usually runs Mass Ave to Anderson which is good because.....
9AM?  Halloween Regatta.  CRI has this on the Calendar for November 7, but because of the name, it might have been put on the wrong date.  Run from HOCR finish (the post about 10 strokes above the wooden boardwalk at Herter Park) to CRI.

******CRI and RBC please make sure you coordinate on this one.
November 7, 2015
9am possible Halloween Regatta, HOCR finish to CRI.
November 15, 2015.
8:00AM.  Men's Foot of the Charles.
Mass Ave to Newell Boathouse (above Anderson Bridge).
And the women's foot?  Anyone?
