CRAB

Hello All,
Dredging on the sandbar begins tomorrow.  For any intrepid boaters out there who may want to row in the open areas on the river (likely to not be open after this weekend), please avoid the area above Weeks because:
  • The dredging will require a barge and it will move.  It is pretty narrow up there so best not to be around it.
  • Once it starts sucking up debris, it does not stop until it is done.  It runs 24 hours a day, and should be done by the end of the weekend (weather permitting).
  • There is a pipe that will run along the Boston shore from the dredge site through the Boston arch of Arsenal Bridge (blocking the Boston Arch) to Herter park parking lot where the debris will be 'dewatered'.
So again, avoid the area, please.

FYI, the contractor has put quite a bit (like a foot or more) of sandy material down on the big parking lot at Herter, next to the playground.  It is covered with a membrane and the debris will be spread across that to dewater.  It will be hauled away from there.  Expect that parking lot to be unusable until April.

We should send a letter from CRAB to the Governor thanking him, Secretary Matt Beaton and dcr Commissioner Roy for this work.  If you have any suggestions about content, get them to me quickly please.  Send to CharlesRiverAllianceofBoaters@gm ail.com
