ok sports fans, this is the start of what we are calling the Head of the Charles Impact Days. Expect lots of out of town visitors (read: less familiar with the traffic pattern and likely rowing the racing traffic pattern including during the warm up in the Basin), traffic jams and a little too much adreneline. These three things do not go well together so please, everyone, use caution. It is better to stop on a practice piece than be out of commission on race day.
On the (informally) organized front, there are several items below. Please take note that at least 2 of these events have turned down folks who want to participate, so you know that there will be other folks squeezing in before and after these events.
SATURDAY
7AM -8:30AM HEADS OF THE KEVIN III
Best 2 of 3 race series on the Head of the Charles course (BU to Herter Park), for Riverside Boat Club members. This is going to be a big one. Informal but participants much be registered. Other rowers are asked to NOT jump into the starting order or start close enough to pass the slowest of competitors as it screws up timing. In other words, leave a good cushion. All participants are reminded that they MUST adhere to the traffic pattern. Any rower who cannot stay where he or she needs to be at full pressure should not participate. Launches will be on the course.
9AM - BU v BC for 2 x Head of the Charles course (BU Boathouse to Herter Park).
The big turn at Eliot will be buoyed, and unbuoyed at end of event. Power boaters should use caution and watch for buoys...and rowers. approximately 6 boats on course
