This Weekend on the Charles

It is another quiet week on the river with the rowers in post Canadian Henley/Master's Nationals mode.  However, a few items to note:

  • Lights!  It is dark out for rowers launching at 5:30AM (and even 5:45AM on many days) and sunset is at 7:42PM.  You must have both a bow (red and green split) light and a stern (white) light on your boat.  blinking lights do not comply with coast guard standards or the CRAB rules we all agree to abide by.
  • For those rowers getting a jump on their Head of the Charles training, please be reminded that the center arches of the powerhouse are shared by upstream and downstream traffic until Labor Day when they change to upstream only, from 5AM to 1PM, until Thanksgiving.  there are clearly some folks out there with misconceptions about this part of the traffic pattern so please talk to you members and make sure people understand this.
  • the Powerboaters are still out in full force so rowers are reminded to use caution in the center arches, and around the BU Bridge where powerboaters must use the Boston shore-most arch for downstream and upstream travel.
  • The river is about to get very busy, very quickly.  Please be sure to look before crossing the river, and to make decisive moves when you do.  No lingering broadside in the river and if you do need to stop to tie in or adjust, make sure that you are out of the line of traffic.
