Fw: new CRAB post

 Folks,
Heads up for these 2 events.  WYC runs a few of these events annually.  They are very popular with the participating charitable organizations and their families.  While WYC is a very good partner in good boating behavior, they give us a heads up on this because they can't avoid larger than normal wakes.

Please support WYC and their efforts to provide quality community activities for the very worthwhile organizations.

Small boats (rowing shells, canoe and kayaks, paddle boarders) are asked to makes adjustments to anticipate and accommodate these events.

 See below for more info.

On Wednesday evening, June 1'st, the Watertown Yacht Club will be hosting a downriver cruise for Best Buddies.
Boats will leave the docks between 5:30 and 6 pm and will be off the River by 8 pm.
There will be 6 to 8 boats, fully loaded with kids, cruising in convoy from above the North Beacon St. Bridge to below the B.U. Bridge.  Given the heavy loads there will unavoidable be much larger wakes than normal, even at slow speed.

Again on Wednesday evening, June 8'th the Club will be hosting about 100 kids from The Perkins School.
Timing and course will be the same as on the 1'st, but many more boats will be involved.

Rowers are asked to please accommodate the disruption to their normal schedules.
Thank you all for your courtesy in helping make these very important events successful for the kids involved.

TRAFFIC PATTERN ALERT! Anderson traffic pattern change happening thursday

See the note below from the State.  As we all know, the Boston arch closure is the most difficult for us to manage, so everyone please make sure that your members are aware of this change, and use the Cambridge Arch ONLY when heading upstream, so that downstream traffic can use the Middle arch.

Be advised that powerboaters use the middle arch in both directions, and will continue to do so.

Hey folks, the River is getting busier by the day.  Dragon Boats are out, powerboats are returning, canoe and kayaks are getting out in bigger numbers and the rowers and sailors are transitioning or overlapping from a busy college/high school racing season to a busy club racing season.  Keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to call out "Look Ahead!" if you think someone doesn't see you.
If you see someone who isn't using best practices of your type of boating and navigating the river, speak with them.  And if someone speaks with you, be open to their concerns and ideas.  We can all do things better, or understand the other person's perspective.  Luckly, we have a really good group of coaches and organizers on this river who are willing to work together to make the river safe for all boaters.

Upcoming Races

Saturday, May 14, 2016
10:00AM to Noon.  BB&N v. Southfield and Lincoln on the Powerhouse (Weeks Bridge to past the Powder Magazine at Magazine Beach).  Girls varsity races.
11:00AM-12:30AM.  BCHigh v. CRI, Fairfield Prep.  I'm not sure where this race is taking place.  Could be the Powerhouse course, could be the 2k course, could be the Herter Half mile.  If someone knows, please alert CRAB.
Sailing?  No races on the calendar, but plenty of boats to be sure.

Newton Yacht Club Fire

this morning out hearts go out to the good people of the Newton Yacht Club.  the news reports two boats heavily damaged but there is surely more fire, smoke and water damage to other boats and dock.  Our best wishes for heavy insurance and a speedy recovery.

folks out this morning encountered an active scene but we should all give Newton a wide berth until they are all cleaned up.  fires are messy things.  better yet, turn before you get there.
