It is a quiet weekend on the Charles.  Possibly, Community Boating will still host their Friday night informals (5:30-8:30PM) and Sunday morning Tiller Club formal racing (9:30AM to 2:30PM).  And then, of course, is the onslaught of powerboats jockeying for position for the fireworks.  Small boaters beware, it can get harry out there on the 3rd, 4th and even the morning of the 5th.  Be careful.  Most of these folks are new to the river and have little to no exprience around rowing shells and dragon boats, or even kayaks.  Use caution.
One note of caution:  stay away from the barge.  The State Police (read: men and women with guns) get very uptight if you enter the buoy enclosure around the barge.  Steer clear.

Heads up on some upcoming events!

Plan accordingly:
Sunday, July 10, 2016
7AM to 6:30PM, Riverside Boat Club's Cromwell Cup Regatta. Weeks Bridge to past the Riverside Docks.  this 1000M sprint race uses all 3 arches (4 lanes) to race.  All other boats are asked to work with regatta officials to wait for breaks in the action to traverse the course.  Powerboaters are also asked to use minimal wake on the course so that racing can continue immediately.  this is an important race on the Club racing circuit, attracting novices, Juniors, masters, former world and olympic competitors and the occasional reigning World Champion and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Tuesday, July 12, 2016
2PM to 6PM, City Splash swimming event near the Hatch Shell.

Saturday, July 16, 2016
8:30AM to 12:30PM.  CBC Invitational Relay Regatta.  Loops, between Eliot and BU Bridge.  This is a tricky one using various boat classes and various loops for a relay race.  a lane will be maintained for other boaters to travel the river, but all are asked to use extreme caution and listen to race officials.  These boats can easily catch you, then have to turn a stake in front of you.  So please, pay attention to the coaching launches on the water.

All Day.  Redbull Flutag at the Hatch Shell.  Home made flying machines compete for airtime, landing in the river.  Google it if you want more details.

Saturday, August 27, 2016
10:30AM to 6:30PM.  Redbull Relay Stake Race.  Riverside Boat Club/Mag Beach area.  This dash and turn race is frantic, fun and draws a crowd.  Again, all other boaters are asked to work with race officials to safely traverse the course.
