Safety first.

TREE DOWN!
There is a tree down, across a good chunk of the river, just below the No. Beacon Street Bridge.  We lose a sandbar and gain another obstacle.  Please use serious caution in both directions.

GOT GUESTS?
If you have guests launching from your docks to row the course this fall, please make sure that they understand the actual traffic pattern of the river, and also the ever changing situation at Anderson bridge.  Included in this should be that the faster boat does not have right of way on a regular day...race rules don't apply.  And please encourage them to not cut the corners.  Visitors are very likely not aware of just how busy this river is on any given day, so please help them to understand before they find out the hard way.

Upcoming Calendar

Thursday, September 15, 2016
Per the previous email from the state, the Center Arch of Anderson Bridge will close, and the Cambridge Arch will re-open.

Friday, September 16, 2016
5:30pm to 8:30pm - Community Boating's Friday Nite Informal Racing.  (Between Longfellow and Mass Ave Bridges)  Lots of fun, less so it you are on the course and not racing.  Please steer clear.
Saturday, September 17, 2016
9:00AM to 2:00PM - Community Rowing's Fall Classic Regatta. (Eliot Bridget to CRI).  Buoyed course.  If you're doing a Head of the Charles piece, please get'r done well before 9AM.  Power Boaters and Canoe/Kayak folks might want to speak directly to race organizers.
Sunday, September 18, 2016
9:30AM to 2:30PM.  Community Boating's Tiller Club's Sunday Morning Formal Racing (between Longfellow and Mass Abe Bridges).  Serious stuff.  Please steer clear.
4:00PM, CRAB ICE CREAM SOCIAL (at Community Boating, behind the Hatch Shell).  Please join us for a little socializing and a preview of the CRAB/MIT Sea Grant Program Charting Project which has measured the depth and hardness of nearly the entire Charles River between the harbor and Newton Yacht Club.  Cool stuff.  The event is free but please, whether you come or not, go to  https://igg.me/at/CRAB-chart  to learn more and to make a donation to support this worthwhile project.
Future Fall Dates of Interest:
Saturday, September 24, 2016
7:00AM to 8:15AM - Heads of the Kevin II on the Head of the Charles course (BU Rowing Boathouse to about 10 strokes past the wooden boardwalk at Herter Park).  This best 2 out of 3 informal series is quite serious.  Please adjust your schedules to avoid.

Sunday, October 2, 2016
11:00AM to Noon.  The Greater Boston Youth Rowing Head Race, Mass Ave Bridge to Anderson Bridge.  BC High v. CRI

Sunday, October 9, 2016
9AM to 5PM, HUGE Boy Scout Canoeing event at Herter Park.  Rowerd DO NOT want to try to row through this event and power boaters should use extreme caution.
Saturday, October 15, 2016
7AM to 8:30AM - Heads of the Kevin III.  Same info as above.  Tends to be a bit larger so give this one a little more time to clear the course.

Sunday, October 16, 2016
Noon to 1:30PM - Head of the Quinnobequin Youth Singles Regatta (Eliot Bridge to North Beacon St. Bridge).  Expect swarms of singles staging between Anderson and Eliot prior to the event.  With competitors as young as 11, all other boaters are asked to keep the course and staging area clear from 11:30am to 1:30PM, and also expect singles launching from lots of clubs on the river.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, and spectating is encouraged.

October 22 and 23, 2016
Head of the Charles Regatta!!!!!
Looking for Foot of the Charles dates if someone could post them and the course to be used.  Thanks!!!
