A HUGE heads up for the Charles River swim on Saturday June 3!

Please distribute to your memberships!

Adjust your calendars now!  Please plan to NOT travel below the Mass Ave bridge on Saturday, June 3, 2017 betwen 7:30am and 9:15AM to ensure the safety of the Charles River Swim participants.  Powerboaters heading for the harbor need to get below the Longfellow by 7:30AM or wait until after 9:15AM.  Rowers are asked to be clear of the area by 7:30AM (and to be clear, if you head down below Longfellow near 7:30AM, you may be trapped there until the race is done).

All clubs should consider putting a note above their log books to stay above the Mass Ave Bridge on June 3 until 9:15AM.

Questions?  Let me know and I'll be happy to forward them to race officials.  And thanks much to Pat from the Charles River Swim for contacting CRAB well in advance of the event to get the word out to the boating community.

The main ask is: Please stay upriver of the Mass Ave Bridge between 7:30AM and 9:15 am Saturday, 03-Jun

The Charles River Swim is an organized, sanctioned Swim Race. A large number of people will be in and on the water between the Mass Ave and Longfellow Bridges.  Upwards of 200 people will be in the water and another two dozen on the surface; in kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and motor boats. In addition, there will be two State Police launches patrolling the course. The main goal of the State Police is to keep boaters and swimmers separated.

  • Race day is Saturday, 03-Jun. Rain date is Saturday, 10-Jun
  • Course is between the Mass Ave and Longfellow Bridges. The image below captures the course.
  • Safety personnel will be on the surface of the course at 7:30.
  • Swimmers will be in the water at 8:00.
  • The water will be clear of all people related to the race by 9:15.
