Big things this weekend and beyond on the Charles River

OK folks, big events on the Charles this weekend and for the next week!  And welcome back to all the college and high school programs returning to the river!  The River is getting busy very quickly, so please make sure everyone in your organization is aware of of the events below and the river calendar, found on the CRAB website at www.charlesriverallianceofboaters.org  (thanks to Carl at Mass Bay League high school sailing for his continuing efforts to develop the site).
SATURDAY, September 8
Practice days begin for the fishing tourney held from Sept. 12-14.  See notice below, and keep your eyes open for visitors to the river who may not be aware of your traffic pattern?
SUNDAY, September 9
Head of the Kevin I
Launch time: 6:30am
Race Start:  7am
End time:  8:10am
Course:  3 miles from BU Boathouse to 10 strokes past the wooden boarwalk at Herter Park.
This is the first of a best-two-of-three head race series that takes place on the Head of the Charles course.  This is a Riverside only event (so that we don't totally hog the river) and though a limited number of guests are allowed in with prior approval only- IT IS NOT OK TO JUMP IN ON THIS EVENT.  There will be some launches on the course to assist with safety, but rowers are expected to follow the established rowing traffic pattern (NOT Head of the Charles rules, which only work on a closed course).  Everyone's cooperation is appreciated.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT 12 - FRIDAY SEPT 14
Mass BASS Federation Nation Fishing Tournament -  Charles / Mystic river   September 8 -11 are practice days the actual tournament is the 12-14 .  the launch each day is out of the mystic wellington ramp in Medford Mass, the bass boats will have to lock through the two locks to get into the Charles river,  most of the bass fishing will be done at the lower end of the Charles and the mystic river, mystic lakes in Medford Ma.  because of the amount of time and the no wake  very few boats will head that far up the Charles river.  This is a regional event  with 48 total boats 6 from each of the states ME ,NY,RI, CT, NH,VT ,Canada and Spain. This event will  bring some notoriety to the Charles River  on the great job that has been done on the water quality and how well this river has been managed. We hope to get some funding from the B.A.S.S. ( Bass Anglers Sportsman Society ) after this event to continue with projects on the river like the water chestnuts.
The launch times are app.  7:00 am each day  and they end app. 3:30.  All  fisherman are aware of the rivers no wake and  the scullers having  right of way as well as all restrictions,   any boat that doesn't follow the rules  will be disqualified.
All permits have been filed with the DCR and the state.
and a heads up for next weekend...
