This Weekend on the Charles including RIVER CLOSING!

Hi folks -
Lots going on this weekend.  There are sailing regattas all weekend, and 2 on Sunday.  Lots of rowers, including out of town visitors (read: rowing the race day traffic pattern, not the every day traffic patter) will be doing practice pieces on the Head of the Charles course, including an organized scrimmage with UBC and CBC (thanks to them for letting us know about this larger group) and SCOUTMAGEDDON! (not its real name - just trying to alert the boating community to the need to take this seriously) on Sunday.  Please read the information below carefully, share with everyone at your boatclubs and adjust your plans accordingly.  Given the large number of scouts that may be in canoes and kayaks, who will be unfamiliar with the Charles River boating, all clubs should make every effort to alert their members to this event.  Rowers in particular are strongly encouraged to be off the water by 9am on Sunday.  And don't forget the river closes 7pm to 10pm for fireworks.

Read on and remember, safety first people, safety first.

9am to 5pm, SCOUTMAGEDDON!  The Boy Scouts will be conducting a DCR permitted paddling event from Charles River Canoe & Kayak's Allston Brighton dock. Approximately 30 canoes and 60+ kayaks will continuously  be on the stretch of river between the Arsenal bridge and the Eliot bridge.
  • Powerboaters should expect to proceed at a a dead slow pace through this section of the river, all day long.
  • Paddlers should keep their eyes open
  • Rowers should flee the area before 9am as even a paddle will be frustrating.  Please alert all boatclub members and guests that no Head of the Charles practice pieces should be attempted after 8:30AM.
7pm to 10pm:  RIVER CLOSING-ARSENAL TOELIOT BRIDGES due to fireworks barge.

MONDAY
